About the George Washington Memorial
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is many things to many people but is especially important to Freemasons and Americans. Many people know that George Washington was the first President of the United States of America. One thing that some people might have not known is that George Washington was also a Freemason. The memorial dedicated to George Washington serves as a memorial to a Founding Father of the United States of a America and serves several other functions too, such as, a museum, an active temple for Freemasonry, library for research, cultural center, community space, performing arts center, and an important national landmark.
The George Washington Memorial building is a neoclassical designed structure that stands nine-stories tall. The memorial was originally erected by Freemasons from all over the United States as a way to express their high regard of the former United States President and to preserve the rich history and lasting heritage Freemasonry in America. As explained in the “Built on Freedom” video, the building has since become a landmark and beacon of light in Freemasonry.
Today the George Washington Memorial welcomes all Freemasons and guests to learn about the George Washington, Freemasonry, and American history on daily tours. The building also has several rental facilities to host both public and private functions.
